SI Fusion

The sacroiliac joint is a fairly common cause of back pain. Sacroiliac joint fusion, also known as an SI fusion, is often recommended for patients with sacroiliac joint disruption due to a variety of conditions including pain, trauma, infection, cancer, and spinal instability.

SI fusion is a minimally invasive surgical procedure performed through a small incision and used to stabilize the sacroiliac joint by using a small bone graft-packed implant and screws and pins to fixate the joint in place. After surgery, the bone graft fuses with existing bone to form a solid joint that no longer causes pain.

Orthofix’s Firebird SI Fusion System is the first 3D-printed titanium bone to launch in the U.S. for treating SI joint dysfunction. Orthofix’s innovative instrumentation, therapies, and biologic materials are developed to add stability to the spine and accelerate fusion.
