Orthofix Celebrates Earth Day!

Earth Day is today, Monday, April 22, and we have reason to celebrate! Did you know that Orthofix remains the first and only company in the U.S. to offer a free recycling program for its Bone Growth Therapy products, allowing patients to properly dispose of their devices after completion of therapy? We are pleased to report that since the program launched in 2021, nearly 22,000 patients have been provided shipping labels to recycle their devices, helping to keep them out of landfills!

Orthofix’s commitment to responsible environmental practices that include conservation of natural resources, pollution prevention, and reduction of waste continues.  Highlights of our environmental sustainability efforts include:

  • Minimizing paper-based shareholder communications by providing electronic notice and access for our annual proxy statement
  • Increased usage of e-records and e-signing technology to reduce paper waste and carbon emissions
  • Continued migration of technology infrastructures to a cloud environment, further reducing energy usage, and our carbon footprint
  • Encouraging environmentally friendly workplace practices by supporting recycling, separating waste, and eliminating Styrofoam in our offices around the globe
  • Using 100% sustainable energy at some locations, including our headquarters in Lewisville, TX
  • Offering free electric vehicle charging locations at some facilities
  • Retaining an environmental engineering firm to assist us in collecting emissions data and measuring our annual green house gas emissions to lead to more accurate and actionable findings
  • Partnering with MTF Biologics to offer the Virtuos(TM) Lyograft, an innovative and sustainable solution in bone grafting that streamlines logistics and reduces packaging and our carbon footprint

We are on a journey of continuous improvement when it comes to climate strategy and action and we engage in a rigorous process each year to identify areas where we can make the most impact.

As we celebrate Earth Day, we encourage everyone to help make our world a more sustainable place and protect it for future generations.

Here are some actions you can take as an individual or in your community to help invest in our planet:

  • Reduce, reuse, and recycle whenever possible
  • Conserve energy by turning off lights and electronics when not in use
  • Support local and sustainable businesses

In the words of cultural anthropologist Margaret Mead, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” Let’s work together to create a greener, more sustainable future for all.

HAPPY EARTH DAY!
