Life can change in an instant. For Melanie, an avid motorcyclist, that moment came with a devastating accident resulting in multiple injuries and the loss of part of her left femur, leaving a 10cm gap in her thigh bone.
The accident had a profound impact on her life, leaving her in constant pain and unable to work or engage in her usual activities, and with her wedding approaching, she wanted to walk down the aisle.
That’s where our team and the surgical team at Sussex Orthopaedic Treatment Centre, Princess Royal Hospital, came in and transformed Melanie’s story from one of trauma to triumph.
Our team, leveraging experience with the Fitbone TAA nail, designed and manufactured a Transport Nail based on the surgeon’s prescription and needed for successful surgery under an incredibly tight timeline. Using this advanced bone transport system, the procedure replaced traditional external frames with invisible internal support, allowing her body to regenerate bone naturally and reduce recovery time.
Thanks to this collaboration, Melanie walked down the aisle with her sons by her side.
